Parenting style can be defined as a set of strategies and attitudes of parents and caregivers in caring for their children. The patterns of behavior, interaction and socialization characterize each style. Diana Baumrind (1996) created a theoretical model with 3 parenting styles (authoritarian, permissive and authoritative) and later Eleanor Maccoby and John Martin (1983) added the neglectful style. By understanding how each parenting style affects the temperament, relationships, academic success and psychological development of our children, we can assess the need to adapt our behavior to stimulate the development of children in the best way.
