Apple harvest on the orchard in the middle of the Ruhr area: Volunteers from the city come together here every year and harvest the apples from the Dortmund orchard. The aim of the campaign is to produce regional apple juice from the harvested apples. From our broadcast on October 8th, 2019 Orchards are valuable - special old apple varieties, such as the Red Iron Apple, often grow on an orchard. These old varieties of orchards sometimes have a taste that takes some getting used to, but are sometimes very well tolerated, especially by allergy sufferers. This is due to the polyphenols they contain, which can compensate for the allergens in the apple from the orchard. In an orchard like this, you can see what some apple varieties originally looked like.
