These so-called drain pumps transport the dirty water out of your washing machine. If you have already checked the lint filter of your washing machine for contamination and could not find any fault, then your drain pump may also have an electrical defect. These drain pumps basically consist of a copper coil, a metal core and a magnet. We therefore know that the most vulnerable component is the copper coil in the pump of your washing machine. However, we can test this coil for electrical continuity using the resistance measurement with a multimeter. To do this, we set the multimeter to the resistance measurement and plug the red cable into the appropriate connection with the ohm symbol. Now we put the test probes on the connections of the drain pump. Now we see a displayable resistance in the display of the measuring device. Or not. If the resistance value cannot be displayed and thus runs towards infinity, then we know that our pump has unfortunately burned out. In this case it must be replaced. If you can measure resistance, then your drain pump is at least still working electrically. The problem could also be caused by the mechanics of your pump. To check this, simply dismantle the entire drain pump into its individual parts. Once you've done that, turn the exposed impeller and see if it's running unevenly or even grinding. If this is the case or if it won't turn at all, then the pump must also be replaced. If neither of these applies, then your washing machine's drain pump is not defective and you need to look for the problem elsewhere. In any case, the connection plug, the supply line and also the control electronics of your washing machine should be checked.
