Specifically, we look at how you can find out whether the drain pump of your dishwasher is electrically or mechanically defective. And since not all pumps are the same, in this video we have devoted ourselves to two different designs of the most common drain pumps in dishwashers. To test our drain pump electrically, we now take a multimeter and set it to measure resistance. This measurement is usually marked with the ohm symbol. We expect a value in the ohm range for our drain pump. This information is only necessary if you have to set the target range of your multimeter in advance. In our case, this is not necessary. Now we plug the red test lead into the socket marked with the ohm symbol and then the measurement can begin. Now hold the two test probes to the connections of your dishwasher drain pump. If you get a resistance between 50 and 300 ohms, then the coil is intact. This resistance only depends on the winding of the coil. There is no standard range here, as there are many different pump designs. Ultimately, however, infinite resistance (no contact) must not appear as a test result. Then the pump would have burned out and would therefore have to be replaced. The problem could also be coming from the mechanics of your pump. To check this, simply dismantle the entire drain pump into its individual parts. Once you've done that, turn the exposed impeller and see if it is running unevenly or even grinding. If this is the case, or if it won't turn at all, then the pump must also be replaced. If neither of these applies, then your dishwasher drain pump is not defective and you need to look for the problem elsewhere. In any case, the connection plug, the supply line and also the control electronics of your dishwasher should be checked.
