How hard is it to hit with an executioner's axe? We test that in this video, where museum curator Anne Katrine Nagel Christensen from Horsens Prison Museum tests Denmark's last executioner's axe, which was used in the last execution in peacetime. It was at 7:15 on November 8, 1892, that the executioner Theodor Seistrup chopped off the head of prisoner Jens Nielsen, and you can still see both the scaffold and the axe at Horsens Prison Museum. In Test History, we test what history's greatest inventions and most important objects are good for, and what people were capable of before anyone thought of us. Because only by seeing history in action do we truly understand the present. Test History is produced by the National Museum's media house Vores Tid for the Danish cultural history museums.
