Tess Durberville's audio play by Thomas Henry You Have No Family Tess Durberville enlists those she believes to be her relatives... and is tricked by Alec, the young son of her family. "Tess Durberville" is one of Thomas Hardy's most moving novels. This work was first published serially and censored in the illustrated newspaper Graphic in 1891 and was published in full in 1892. Although this story is considered one of the famous novels of the 19th century England and Hardy's masterpiece, Tess faced a lot of criticism at the beginning, one of the reasons for which was the challenge of sexual morality in the late Victorian era. Tess, who is a very beautiful and innocent girl, goes to the city to visit the wealthy Durberville family (whom she thinks are their real relatives), because of her mother's insistence. There she meets Alek and after Alek rapes her and she becomes pregnant, she returns to her village. Tess' sick baby dies just a few weeks after being born, and she returns to the difficult life of the past.
