Canary Islands - Tenerife. Anaga Mountains: Taganana-Afur-Taganana Trail One of the trails in the Parque Rural de Anaga is PR TF 8. This trail, marked out in ancient times, until recently was the only communication route to the rest of Tenerife from the village of Tanagana, where sugar cane had been grown since the 16th century. The village of Taganana is one of the first settlements founded in Tenerife by Spanish conquistadors. Located in the north-eastern part of the island, on the slopes of the Anaga Mountains, it is a rich cross-section of the fauna and flora of the Canary Islands. The inhabitants of Taganana are mainly engaged in agriculture, growing sweet potatoes, yams and other vegetables and fruit trees characteristic of this area. For a long time, Taganana was almost cut off from the rest of Tenerife. It could only be reached by boat or by risking your life on unsecured mountain trails. Everything changed only in 1968, when a tunnel was built connecting the village with the rest of the island. It was through this tunnel that I got there. And so I set off on an amazing trail. I thought that Tenerife would not surprise me with anything anymore, but these areas hidden behind the Anaga mountains are amazing. I made a loop starting from Taganana towards the village of Afur, from there I went down the gorge to the ocean and then on the trail running over a 300m cliff towards where I started my hike.
