Is there a right way to connect double sockets? Personally, I see a lot of photos of incorrect connections on the internet, and I've even seen videos of "electrical teachers" teaching how to connect them in an unsafe way. That's why, in today's video, I'm going to teach you 3 different ways to install double sockets, but in a professional way. Before we start our class, I'd like to make three observations. 1 - There is no standard that standardizes this type of connection. So, all the ways presented here are correct. 2 - But there is a standardization that informs which sides the phase, neutral and ground conductors should be connected to. According to NBR 14136, the standard that regulates sockets and plugs, if we look at the socket from the front and with the ground pin facing upwards, the neutral cable should be on the terminal on the left side, the phase cable should be on the terminal on the right side and the ground cable should be on the central terminal. 3 - At the end of the class, I have an important message about a free mini course that we will soon launch on the channel. There will even be a certificate for those who participate. Hang in there and I'll explain how it will work. With your observations made, it's time to list the materials and tools to make the connections: 2 Brazilian standard 10A sockets Phillips screwdriver Stripping or universal pliers 2.5mm2 tubular terminals 2.5mm2 cable pigtails for phase, neutral and ground Crimping pliers Insulating tape WAGO connectors Gloves. First of all, turn off the main circuit breaker for your safety. Safety is never too much, so make sure that there is no power to the cables that you are going to touch; The first way we will show you to install double sockets is to make the branch directly from the socket terminal. First, we will cut some pieces of approximately 10 centimeters to make the pigtails for the phase, neutral and ground cables. Then, we will crimp the two ends of these pigtails. Always pay attention to the correct side to connect the cables before starting to attach them. Then, we will attach these pigtails to the phase, neutral and ground terminals on the socket that will receive the branch. The other end of the pigtail will simply be inserted into the terminals of the other socket. Note that even in a simple connection of a socket, you can be careful. Being careful is one of the distinguishing features of good professionals. Now, we will crimp the phase, neutral and ground cables that are in the 2x4” box. And finally, we will point the socket terminals with the phase, neutral and ground pigtails together with the cables that are in the 2x4” box. And our first connection is ready. Now we will show you the second way to install double sockets, which is by making a branch connection before the socket terminals. The detail is that we will use insulating tape to insulate the connections. In this installation method, we need to use 2 pigtails for the phase, 2 pigtails for the neutral and 2 pigtails for the ground. We will crimp the ends of these pigtails again, but this time, it will be just one of the ends. Now we will use the phase, neutral and ground cables that are in the 2x4” box. Note that we stripped approximately 5 centimeters of each cable. Next, we also stripped about 5 centimeters of each of the pigtails we made. Now all we need to do is join the pigtails to the cables that are in the 2x4” box, always trying to make the connections very firm. And after splicing the cables, just insulate the exposed parts using insulating tape. Repeat the same process with the other cables. Finally, attach the pigtails to the phase, neutral and ground terminals on each of the sockets. And our second connection is ready! And finally, we will show you a third way to install double sockets by making a branch connection before the terminals. It is similar to the previous method, the difference is that instead of making the connection by joining the cables and passing insulating tape, we will use WAGO connectors.
