Founded in the 12th century and reestablished in 1861, the Notre-Dame de Tamié Abbey is located in the Tarentaise region of Savoie, at an altitude of 900 m, surrounded by nature. Today, it has twenty-seven Trappist monks. The abbey is a discreet, simple, silent and secluded place. The brothers seek God there. As the Rule of Saint Benedict requires of them, the monks of Tamié give an important place to manual work, hospitality and the divine office. The brothers gather eight times a day to sing the divine office and celebrate the Eucharist, and the abbey is renowned for the quality of its liturgy. Fraternal life is a fundamental element for the community. The brothers are full of attention to one another. The weakest are surrounded by affection, guests are welcomed with thoughtfulness and listening. In recent months, Tamié Abbey has experienced a major event - a change of abbot. Dom Ginépro having reached the canonical age of 75, he had to resign. On November 15, the brothers elected a new abbot. The abbatial blessing took place on January 7, 2024 in the presence of Mgr Thibault Verny, Archbishop of Chambéry, Bishop of Maurienne and Tarentaise. Our camera entered Tamié Abbey to follow the lives of the brothers - four monks in particular. And also to discover the choice of the new abbot.
