❚ Architectural Exploration House???? Why is this happening to the family? ❚ April 2, 2024 (Tue) EBS1 Broadcast In Gyeryong-si, Chungcheongnam-do, at the foot of Gyeryongsan Mountain, a famous mountain full of national spirit, there is a European-style brick house with a unique exterior. The house of Mr. Kim Kwan-jin, who finished his 35-year teaching career and retired, and his wife, Shin Eun-kyung, is half built with red bricks and half with C blocks. Gray C blocks made of baked clay are stacked on the large glass window in the front to create a unique honeycomb-like exterior, and the 'see-through' style allows sunlight and light to pass through to create various patterns. The interior of the house is designed around a long hallway to divide the space between the husband and wife. The right side of the house is the husband's space, and there is a TV room for the husband who is nicknamed 'Sleeping Again' because he sleeps a lot and enjoys watching sports broadcasts. On the left is the kitchen for the wife who enjoys cooking, tea ceremonies, and knitting, and there is a terrace connected to it. The house that was optimized for the couple's characteristics was created thanks to architect Shin Min-cheol. Director Shin Min-cheol, who is Eun-kyung's younger brother and a famous architect, had been putting off his sister's request to build a house for 30 years. He thought it would not be easy to come all the way from Seoul to Gyeryong to design it and thought, "I have to build it well to make a profit." However, he accepted the house after his sister's earnest request and the thought that no one else could build a house that would be considerate of the couple. The first thing he considered when designing was the different personalities, tastes, and lifestyles of his brother-in-law who likes professional baseball and his sister who likes cooking and tea ceremony. He separated the space for the husband and wife in order to accommodate the couple's difficulties in their old age as they retired and spent more time together. They could do what they wanted in their own spaces, but the space was opened up so that they could hear each other, maintaining a sense of communication. He also designed it as a single-story house for his sister who had bad knees and minimized the movement of the kitchen. To persuade his sister who wanted a veranda on the second floor, he chose a knee-high deck that connects the kitchen to the yard. It even contains memories of the veranda where they played together as children. Eun-kyung's happiest time was drinking tea on this deck while feeling the spring breeze and sunshine. A couple's house where everyone can enjoy a satisfying and leisurely life with a separate space. A house filled with the heart of a younger brother who thinks of his older sister. Let's take a look at a warm house that could be built because he knows his family better than anyone else. #ArchitectureExplorationHouse #SeparatedHouse #EuropeanBrickHouse #Interior #KimHoMinArchitect
