Rüdiger Erben, domestic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group, is firmly opposed to the AfD parliamentary group's populist demands for the repatriation of Syrian refugees. He explains why hasty deportations would not only be irresponsible, but also economically fatal. More than 5,000 Syrians have entered the labor market in Saxony-Anhalt, many of them as urgently needed skilled workers. Without them, our health system, care facilities and many companies would face major problems. In the health sector alone, there are over 6,000 doctors of Syrian origin working nationwide. In Saxony-Anhalt, they are making a significant contribution to alleviating the shortage of skilled workers.
