In 2011, the Syrian revolution erupted against the regime of Bashar al-Assad, and there was massive destruction, genocide, and millions of refugees, and the crisis was increasing with time. The Syrian people lived through endless suffering. But after 13 years of tragedy, and in a surprising moment, the opposition overthrew the Assad regime in just 11 days! In this episode, my guest is my dear friend Malik Al-Ruqi, a Saudi journalist who talks to us about the history of Syria from its independence from France, through the rule of Hafez al-Assad, and up to the rule of his son Bashar, who was overthrown by the opposition. This suffering that the Syrians experienced during Bashar’s era was not new, as Syria suffered in the 1970s under the rule of Hafez al-Assad, who destroyed the Syrian people and invented the school of oppression called the “Baath Party” to suppress any opposition to his presidency. Malik tells us the story of the historic massacre he committed in the city of Hama, which its people have not been able to forget until now. He also tells us about Bashar's assumption of the presidency after it was intended for his older brother Basil, and the facts that prove that Bashar was behind the assassination of Hariri. An episode about the Syrian revolution and what happened after it until the fall of the Assad regime. How did the opposition succeed now? Have Assad's allies abandoned him? What about the future of Syria? Will Syria succeed in rebuilding the state? What about Ahmed Al-Sharaa, will he succeed in gaining the trust of the Syrians, despite his past in Al-Qaeda and ISIS? And what could happen that would ruin this happy ending? An important analytical episode about the history of Syria and what is happening in it now. - • Traveling soon?
