About :

In today's lesson we will do some rhythm work, we will see what it is, how syncopation works and what its applications would be, taking three rhythm patterns as an example, Swing, Bolero and Bossa Nova. If you want to delve deeper into the rhythmic area of the guitar, in this lesson I will show you how you can create your own rhythms: • Learn to create incredible RHYTHMS with... Syncopation is generated by using a note on a weak beat whose duration is extended until the strong beat, when this procedure is carried out the weak beats of the measure are accentuated, which generates a feeling of instability. At the rhythm level, syncopation is one of the most used elements, it allows us to get out of the strong beats by accentuating the weak ones, which generates a feeling of instability, it is something that we can find in many musical styles and that can be applied to any instrument, for example it is very common to find it in voices and percussion. Syncopation can be created over a space of 4 beats, 2 beats and even one beat. Within the first group we will create it using a quarter note, a half note and another quarter note, with this we will have a four beat syncopation, although it is not used very frequently if it is possible to find it. The two beat syncopation will be done using an eighth note, quarter note, eighth note, this can be located anywhere in the measure of both four and three beats, it is even possible to use an intermediate syncopation when used in the middle of the measure. Finally, the one beat syncopation is composed of a sixteenth note, eighth note and sixteenth note, this is very common in funk, although it can be found in many musical styles, due to its speed it is easy to get confused in its interpretation, so I recommend working it slowly initially. Within this lesson we will see different examples applied to three musical styles, Swing, Bolero and Bossa nova, they are not the only ones that use syncopation, but it does predominate in them.
