They focus a lot on the harmonic, and leave aside the motor element, which makes us move to the rhythm of the music. Syncopation is an accentuation on a weak beat of the measure, which is prolonged towards a strong beat. Offbeat, on the other hand, is an accentuation on a weak beat of the measure but is not prolonged.
