Moin! The new year 2025 starts on Sylt with hurricane-like gusts and wind speeds of up to 120 km/h. In addition to yesterday's New Year's Eve party on the promenade in Westerland, the traditional New Year's swim in Wenningstedt was also cancelled. The fire brigade was in constant use to secure fallen trees and remove flying roof parts. This is part of life and holidays on the rough North Sea, but the gusts of wind should not be underestimated. Flying fireworks at the New Year's Eve party or the strong current during the New Year's swim would have posed an unnecessarily great risk. The communities of Westerland and Wenningstedt therefore decided to spontaneously cancel these popular events - for the safety of all of us, so that we can be happy and cheerful in the coming year too. ❤️🍀 The promenade was still well attended, because the power of nature captivates many people.
