Windows is getting on your nerves with more and more advertising, with the cloud requirement, with the update requirement, with security problems - you name it. So, should we switch to Apple macOS, Google ChromeOS or Linux? We report on what these systems do better, how they feel and what hurdles we overcame when switching. c't editor Hartmut Gieselmann has known macOS for many years, c't editor Stefan Porteck uses ChromeOS and Linux, moderator and c't editor Jörg Wirtgen recently switched from Windows to macOS. We exchange ideas, describe different ways of working and compare our solutions. Some of it is actually true: Apple lures users with good hardware at quite high prices, ChromeOS is mostly used in the browser, and some applications are missing for Linux. But other things are put into perspective in comparison because all systems are evolving. For example, macOS is by no means always clear and easy to use. And with ChromeOS you don't have to store everything in the Google cloud. And Windows hardware is not necessarily cheaper than Apple's. We exchange ideas, compare, discuss.
