Old town flair around the Stortorget. Viking tradition in the Foteviken open-air museum. The narrow streets of Ystadt and the enigmatic stone oval of Ales Stenar lie on the south coast. Småland with its dense forests and glittering lakes. 40 towers rise above the city wall of the medieval Hanseatic city of Visby on the Baltic island of Gotland. Then Stockholm, the capital: The old town Gamla Stan, the royal palace, the Storkyrkan, the National Museum and Drottningholm Palace as well as a trip to the archipelago are shown. Via Uppsala with its renowned university and the burial mounds of Gamla Uppsala, we head to Åre in the lonely mountain regions of Jämtland. Dalarna is the centre of the Midsummer festivals in June. The Göta Canal connects the large lakes Vänern and Vättern with the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The picturesque fishing village of Fjällbacka and the Bronze Age rock carvings of Vitlycke are on the way to Gothenburg. A film by Uta Bodenstein and Eberhard Weckerle
