Excerpts from the book “Inspired Talks” by Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda (1863 - 1902) was a Hindu monk and one of the most celebrated spiritual leaders of India. Vivekananda, which means: “The bliss of discernment of wisdom”, was the chief disciple of Sri Ramakrishna and one of the pioneers in spreading the philosophy of Yoga and Vedanta in the West. His teachings were based mainly on the spiritual teachings of Ramakrishna and his personal internalization of the Advaita Vedanta Philosophy. Vivekananda interpreted the Hindu scriptures, philosophy and way of life for the Western people, always emphasizing the universal and humanistic side of the Vedas (the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism), as well as the belief in service rather than dogma. Self-improvement and service were his ideals. He guided the attainment of the divinity of the soul through selfless work, worship and mental discipline. According to Vivekananda, the ultimate goal is to achieve freedom of the soul and this encompasses the entirety of a person's religion. Learn more at: https://comunidadeculturaearte.com/sw... ???? Brahman is the same in both forms, changeable and immutable. Shankara says: “Brahman is the essence, the reality of all knowledge, and that all manifestation as Knower, knowledge and known, are but imagination in Brahman”. The fact of seeing differences is the cause of all suffering and ignorance is the reason why we see differences. Freedom is nothing but the destruction of ignorance, and this disappears only when we know Brahman”. Swami Vivekananda. “The books suggest the existence of an inner light and the method to extract it; But we can understand them only when we ourselves gain that Knowledge. When the inner light is kindled within you, give up the books and look only within. Everything is within you, and it is a thousand times more than what is in all the books. Never lose faith in yourself; you can do everything in this universe. Never be cowardly; all this power is yours. If religion and life depend on books or on the existence of some prophet, then let all religions and all books die! Religion is within us. Neither books nor teachers can do more than help us to find it, and even without them we can unearth the truth that is within us.” Swami Vivekananda. “The Vedas must come down to our level, because if they tell us the highest truth in the highest way, we will not understand it.” Swami Vivekananda.
