WE SLEPT IN A KOMBI IN THE RANGE OF RIO DO RASTRO! After our ascent of the Serra do Rio do Rastro in a Kombi, we decided to sleep at the mountain's viewpoint to watch the sunrise. Even though we didn't have facilities to take a shower, we spent one night there. It was a very cold night and we slept in our Kombi Motorhome. We woke up early and saw the sunrise in the Serra do Rio do Rastro, a surprising and breathtaking landscape. We also received a visit from several coatis, which are wild animals that live at the top of the mountain. They look for food on the grass in the morning. Some visitors were chased when they opened plastic packaging, as they have a habit of feeding these animals, but it is prohibited and highly dangerous. We told our friends not to feed these animals!!! We had to have our breakfast with the Kombi closed because the coatis were trying to get into the Kombi to steal food. After breakfast, we hit the road through the fields at the top of the Santa Catarina mountains, with beautiful scenery until we reached the city of São Joaquim. We passed by the SC-390 highway, where Thaís could drive the Kombi Mel and practice driving on paved roads. It is always important for both of us to be able to drive the Kombi in case we need to in the future. Arriving in the city of São Joaquim, we went to see the square of the Igreja Matriz and showed our friends the beautiful João Ribeiro square located right in the city center, which is very well maintained and preserved. We went to a supermarket to buy some items for an adventure we will take along deserted roads on the canyon route. We found pine nut seeds at the foot of an araucaria tree. We picked them up and took them to our Kombi to cook and show our friends what a cooked pine nut is like. We managed to cook them and they were very good. The pine nut was fresh, even though it was not the pine nut harvest season. After spending two days at a gas station waiting for the rain to stop in the region, we got back on the road, passing through the city of Bom Jardim da Serra because we will take a dirt road that connects the city to São José dos Ausentes/RS. We stopped at Praça José Caetano do Amaral, located in the city center, where the main church of the city of Bom Jardim da Serra is located. It is a beautiful and welcoming inland city, with its mountainous landscape full of araucarias, very popular in the winter because it snows during the high season! We stopped at Pousada Rota da Kombi to meet our friends in person who are passionate about Kombis, and built the entire themed inn, thinking about every detail and comfort of the guests. The care is incredible and we showed our friends that they have a yellow Kombi in the front of the Inn just like Kombi Mel.
