(scroll down for English text) Western Suriname In 2022 we made a trip to Suriname, where we made excursions of a few days each time from Paramaribo. The trip was organized by Waterproof Tours, and the third part of the trip went to the west of the country, via the rice cultivation area around Wageningen, the Coppename River and the Nickerie River to Nieuw Nickerie, where we were picked up by boat to the Bigi Pan nature reserve. This is a coastal swamp with brackish water and a great wealth of birds and fish. After an overnight stay in Bigi Pan, we returned to Wageningen, where we were picked up for a trip into the jungle around the Maratakka River. There we took a boat trip on the river and spent the night in the jungle, excellently looked after by the family of Aunt Gerda... Western Suriname In 2022 we made a trip to Suriname, formerly known as Dutch Guyana. The trip was managed by Waterproof Tours and we made short excursions each lasting a few days, from the capital Paramaribo. This is the video I made of our trip to the west of the country, crossing several great rivers by car until we were taken by boat to the Bigi Pan nature reserve, a shallow brackish lagoon and swamp area rich in bird life and fish. Having spent the night there, we returned, being taken into the rainforest to a lodge on the Maratakka river. Here we spent another night, doing an excursion up the river and being well cared for by Aunt Gerda's family...
