A film about cultural encounters, overcoming fears when facing new challenges at your own personal limits. We were particularly impressed by the immense performance of the porters: I carried 20kg myself and the performance of every single mountaineer is tremendous, but even that was impressively surpassed by the companions and porters. Kilimanjaro, the highest volcano on earth and one of the most beautiful of the infamous Seven Summits: every year, tens of thousands dare to climb the 5895 meter high "White Roof" of Africa. Only about half reach Uhuru Peak - Swahili for "Peak of Freedom", as Africa's highest point has been called since Tanzania's independence. Some fail because of altitude sickness, but most because they underestimate the challenge. Sabine Nehls, housewife and mother of three grown-up children, also wants to make her dream come true. Together with eight other mountain tourists, including her husband with the film camera, and a 35-strong accompanying team of local guides and porters, she overcomes her fears and goes on an educational journey into a culture of warm-hearted people - and to herself. But not everyone will reach the summit.
