At the moment, the 'Swiss Grand Tour' is the latest seductive marketing gimmick from the Swiss, with which they hope to attract guests from all over the world. Driving stages every day in your own car on wonderful panoramic roads away from the main traffic arteries, strolling through the magnificent scenery. No great effort, plenty of time to linger, stop off in the evening and sleep deeply in the good mountain air. A charming idea... And you have to admit, it was created before the pandemic. Still in the stage of unbridled wanderlust. So it seems logical to take guests on off-the-beaten-path routes, for the good of all. Well, Corona... And now Putin's attempted war of annihilation against our Ukrainian friends. Who would have thought that external influences that have nothing to do with tourism would cause the industry to falter so much... The extremely high operating costs for drivers do the rest. Not really ideal conditions for an extended road trip. Fortunately, the Swiss are flexible. And so they quickly developed the equivalent of the Grand Tour - but this time not by car, but by train. A combination of the most beautiful mountain routes in Switzerland - of which there are more than enough. Can be purchased cheaply at home with the Swiss Travel Pass - and I can confirm that it is an absolute pleasure to travel by train in Switzerland. But whether by car or train - there is an epicenter of alpine cosiness that no traveler can miss: Lake Lucerne. This TV feature is dedicated to it. But we are by no means just staying at wave height - although that would be interesting in itself. Because of all the ostentatious villas. This report is about the happiness of reaching the summit on the lake. It is surrounded by a mountain with a view that is more beautiful than its neighbor. I will introduce you to three: the Pilaus, Lucerne's local mountain, very mighty and already slightly alpine. Then the Rigi, the heart of the people of Lucerne, with its large alpine meadow on the Kulm, and the Stanserjoch, which I chose primarily because the cable car is a real eye-catcher. Lake Lucerne is somehow a kind of miniature Switzerland. All the feelings of happiness in a small space. And really doable for everyone. No physical condition is no excuse. Even those with sore feet have fun. And in terms of food, every snack station is practically within sight. Please click on the PLAY button in the picture to see the report. And if you want to make - at least a virtual - detour to one of the best Swiss hotels above the lake, the Bürgenstock, then go here: https://wasmitreisen.com/buergenstock... Most of you know that I almost always shoot my films alone - so very far away from the production reality of the public broadcasters - the few who still do serious travel journalism.
