Here is a short report of the film by Tjalling Alkema, of a ride with sugar beets to the sugar Union factory in Groningen, by transport company KLMV from Sint Annaparochie. On 15-11-1985 Tjalling Alkema filmed a ride with sugar beets by driver Dirk Leeuwen. Loading took place at two locations in Oude Leije, at farmer Arend Bakker and at farmer Rienk Rienks, the truck was loaded at Bakker and the trailer at Rienks. The loading was done by the crane of the Firma AGde Vries from the Westhoek, the driver on the crane was Douwe Poortstra. At the factory, the weights are first weighed, a sample is taken, then the weights are unloaded on the ramp, and then the weights are weighed again and the return journey can begin. But first, we have coffee and eat pea soup with rye bread and bacon, at the drivers' café Slaperstil at Douwe and Greetje's. Now back to the Bildt for the next ride.
