In order to get on playlists, many artists have to adapt their sound to the masses in order to get a piece of the small streaming pie. "Tracks" speaks to musicians who actively oppose the majority sound dictated by success. What motivates them to oppose current sound conventions? And what actually makes good music? Anyone who clicks through the playlists of the popular streaming portals today will quickly notice how much of the music on offer sounds at least very similar. One reason for this: musicians have to adapt their sound in order to get a playlist placement and thus still have at least minimal streaming income. But there are artists who actively oppose the standardization of music - and are successful in doing so. Tracks meets with punk legend Gudrun Gut (Malaria!, Einstürzende Neubauten), the king of weirdness Alexander Marcus and the internationally known Austrian artist Soap&Skin to explore how musicians can still go their own way today without having to adapt and what appeal music can have that is not conventional and mass-appealing. Because as different as the three protagonists seem to be, one thing connects them: they are successful beyond the mainstream. #mainstream #independent #music Alexander Marcus: https://www.instagram.com/alexanderma...
