Five students from the University of Lille, Joséphine and Nicolas, L3 in maths, Alexandre, M1 Statistical and Digital Engineering (ISN), Quentin and Fatimetou, M1 High Performance Computing and Simulations (CHPS), tell us about their career paths and choices and demystify studying maths at university. Nicolas, Alexandre and Fatimetou entered university directly after their Baccalaureate. However, Nicolas chose a degree in maths and wants to continue in preparatory classes for the agregation, while Alexandre followed the MASS degree (now MIASHS degree) and will be doing a work-study program next year in a start-up in data science and marketing. Fatimetou did a degree in maths-info in Mauritania which gave her a taste for applied maths and the desire to come to France. Others have searched for themselves a little more. Joséphine is currently in L3 in maths, but after having been in preparatory classes for the BCPST and MPSI-MP. Quentin was a teacher before retraining in mathematical engineering.
