Leander is 20 years old and is in his 5th semester of studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Dresden. He has also been working there as a tutor for a year. Once a week he goes through the new exercises with his fellow students and tries to explain all the questions well. First of all, he has to understand the topics in statics himself in order to be able to convey them correctly. If he has any questions himself, he clarifies them beforehand with Jochen, who is also a tutor and is already in his 7th semester of studying civil engineering. Leander feels a great responsibility to get his fellow students through the upcoming exam well. You should like math and physics Especially in the first semesters, the civil engineering course is very math and physics-heavy. The subject of elastostatics, a sub-area of technical mechanics, and statics in general are among the most difficult modules of the course. There are often high failure rates in the exams here. You don't usually have to learn much by heart - many resources are permitted for the exams. Nobody can learn all the formulas by heart, says Leander, but we have to be able to use them correctly. The fascination of civil engineering The architect plans, the civil engineer calculates – so they say. But the civil engineer does a lot more. What Leander particularly likes is that he creates something new, something that wasn't there before. And that he can be responsible for the logistical, organizational and financial processes on a construction site. That only works as a team – nobody can build a skyscraper, a tunnel or a bridge alone. Loners are not really at home in university either. Many project tasks only work together – as does preparing for exams. #civilengineer #civilengineering #alphauni You can find out more about the course content, admission requirements and career opportunities here: https://ardalpha.de/s/65VQzLf Author: Anette Orth Camera: Roman Schlaack Editing: Verena Linhof CvD: Friederike Kühn Channel management: Marinus Zängerl Editor: Corinna Benning-Creanga ---------------------------------- Are you looking for your dream course or your dream job? alpha Uni helps you find both!
