What is it like to study biology? Julia knows that. She is in her third semester of a master's degree in biology at the TUM School of Life Sciences in Freising/Weihenstephan. In addition to lectures, seminars and writing term papers, the 23-year-old is currently completing a research internship and is experimenting with fruit flies in the laboratory. Quite a challenge for the student: after all, the flies are only 2-3 millimeters long! And: so far, Julia has only dissected dead animals in her biology studies, but now she has to open the skull of a live fly for the first time. Even if it is "only" a fruit fly, the other one can be attacked with a fly swatter without batting an eyelid, it is a dilemma for Julia: ultimately, an animal is sacrificed for science. Julia is fascinated by the processes in nature and in people and wants to learn how everything works and is connected in her biology studies. Julia only realized how many facets biology has to offer during her studies: botany, zoology, genetics, molecular biology, ecology and biochemistry are among the subjects covered. "At school I thought, oh, I like animals, I like being outside, and then at university I realized that what interested me most was molecular biology and its connection to medicine." Julia also finds what plants can do extremely exciting: "For example, they react to heavy metal. Plants are so cool!" Biology is a demanding subject, Julia thinks, but a particularly exciting one: in order to understand and comprehend all the connections, you often need the other natural sciences as well. For example, math, physics or chemistry. Anyone who decides to study biology should also enjoy these subjects: "In biology, everything is simply connected, you need one to understand the other," says Julia. #alphaUni #Biology #Study And here we have summarized the most important information and facts about studying biology: https://www.ardalpha.de/s/5RKadwS Author: Anna Kemmer Camera: Jasper Brüggemann Editing: Christoph Hölzl CvD: Lukas Hellbrügge Channel Management: Marinus Zängerl Project management: Lennart Bedford-Strohm Editor: Corinna Benning ---------------------------------- What is it like to study law?
