Have you ever thought about studying English abroad, but think it's too late? You're wrong! In this video, I'll tell you about my experience learning English in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. I also explain the dynamics of the school, the teaching methods (Cambridge curriculum), the preparation of students for the IELTS exam and the universities in Malaysia, the costs of living, living with other cultures – especially Chinese, Korean, Japanese and people from Arab countries, and much more. It was an intensive course, an immersion in the English language at the age of 40 that was worth it! The exchange was quite an experience! It's worth remembering that you take a placement test as soon as you arrive at the school, it's a written test of grammar and conversation in English with a teacher, so that they can identify what level you are at and start you in the right class. Prices (reference 2024 / varies according to exchange rate) If you complete a year of study, you will pay the total amount of around R$ 19,200. That is, around R$1,600 per month. But if you pay each monthly fee individually (month by month), the amount increases and each month ends up costing around R$2,200. Student Visa for 6 months: around R$2,740. 12 months: around R$4,080. A golden tip: Brazilians can stay in Malaysia with a tourist visa for a maximum of 3 months. During this period, you can study without any problems. But if you want to stay longer, you will need a student visa. Unless you choose to leave the country every 3 months and come back. For example: many Brazilians have stayed here for three months, traveled for a few days (it could be a weekend) to a neighboring country, such as Thailand or Singapore, for example, and then returned to spend another 3 months in Malaysia. This way, you do not need a student visa, but plan for the cost of this trip. It is worth remembering that immigration also usually asks for information about your accommodation and your return ticket to Brazil. So don't be a smartass and come here with no plans to return, you know! The cost of housing, food, transportation and Internet, for example, depends on each person's lifestyle. If you live a life without so many luxuries, eating at nice restaurants in shopping malls and living in nice apartments, you can set aside around R$2,400 per month. In other words, considering school and living expenses here, the monthly cost can reach R$4,000. But some friends said they spent less, on average R$3,400. You can get the list of necessary documents directly from the school! But basically you will need copies of your passport, photos, proof of residence, forms with personal information and the Health Declaration (which is a requirement for entry into Malaysia - this is a document provided by immigration and you fill it out yourself). I have already done two other English exchanges at a highly regarded school (Kaplan) internationally. The first was in New York in 2013, and the second in San Diego, California, in 2014. Comparing these experiences, Malaysia still has the best cost-benefit ratio, even with a 10-year difference in this calculation! In Malaysia, I studied at Stratford: https://stratford.edu.my Tell them I recommended it and we can cry for a discount together! Hahaha : ) Oh, many parents also bring their children to study English in Malaysia, you know! Especially Koreans and Chinese. The school where my daughters study has Winter Camp and Summer Camp - which are specific programs for student exchange. I'm talking about children, aged between 4 and 12.
