On Saturday, April 6, the La Boétie Institute organized a study day on the State. The second round table, entitled "The State of Authoritarian Liberalism," analyzed the most recent developments in the State. What is the current status of the distinction proposed by Pierre Bourdieu between the left and right hand of the State? What does the repressive turn of the State consist of in relation to the ongoing changes in capitalism? Police violence, militarization, fascism, but also the role of financial powers are all questions addressed by this round table. The speakers: Marlène Benquet, sociologist, co-author of La finance autoritaire : vers la fin du néolibéralisme (2021) and co-facilitator of the sociology department of the La Boétie Institute Olivier Le Cour Grandmaison, lecturer in political science and political philosophy, specialist in the history of citizenship, author of Racismes d'Etats, Etats racistes. A Brief History (2024) Marlène Rosano-Grange, sociologist and doctor in international relations, specialist in international organizations and structures Claude Serfati, researcher at the Institute of Economic and Social Research, author of The Radicalized State.
