Chaos occurred during a demonstration rejecting 12 percent VAT carried out by the Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) at the Horse Statue, Monas, Central Jakarta, Friday (12/27/2024). Students and police were involved in a scuffle. The incident began when students refused to disperse until the deadline for expressing their opinions. The police had appealed to the demonstrators to disperse. However, the demonstrators responded to the appeal by remaining silent. The police finally fired a water cannon to disperse the students. The water spray made the students slowly retreat.
