According to the manufacturers' lists, parents-to-be have to dig deep into their pockets for their baby. Over 3,000 euros is easily within their budget - but do you really have to spend that much money? Experts say no. Basics such as socks, burp cloths, strollers and a few other things are enough. GENDER REVEAL PARTY Social media has created a real billion-dollar baby business. Parents-to-be feel under pressure and want to outdo each other. The new trend also includes so-called gender reveal parties, where real planners can be hired to organize a party to announce the baby's gender. From 150 euros to over 1,000 euros are spent on this too. BARGAINS AT THE FLEA MARKET If you want to shop sensibly and sustainably, the best thing to do is to get advice from a midwife or another non-commercial place. Another tip is to visit a flea market. Here you can get good products at bargain prices. The items are often hardly used, because not every baby has a sibling and the little ones quickly grow out of the things. Strollers, carriers and toys can also be found easily second hand. FOOD SUPPLEMENTS FOR PREGNANT WOMEN Companies want to make a lot of money not only with the initial equipment, but also with the nutrition of pregnant women. The range is huge: from special pregnancy teas or biscuits to numerous food supplements, there is everything. According to experts, iodine and folic acid are useful for pregnant women, but many other products are completely unnecessary. Iron, for example, should not be taken as a supplement during pregnancy, unless the doctor specifically advises it in a particular case.
