Morning press conference, from the National Palace. Monday, January 13, 2025 President Claudia Sheinbaum. 00:00:00 Start of broadcast 00:08:47 Press conference begins 00:10:07 Who's who in prices 00:17:54 New model for upper secondary education 00:34:05 Question and answer session 01:38:55 Mexican humanism Because education is a right, in 2025 there will be 40 thousand new places in upper secondary education; for this we are going to build and expand schools in 30 entities. The integration of the National Baccalaureate System also unifies the 31 upper secondary education subsystems and we will expand coverage: young people will stay in their communities to study high school. Added to this is the extension of hours in secondary schools that only have morning shifts; the facilities will receive young people studying high school in the afternoons. The goal for this six-year period is 200,000 new places in high schools, mainly in places where there are none. The new system will be geared towards general national high school and technological high school. Regardless of whether you study at a CETis, CBTis or Conalep, you will have an equivalent basic education and later you will receive the specific education of the technological high school. You will receive a unique certificate, just like all young people in the country. In addition, another certificate endorsed by the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) or the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM). This will allow the link with basic education and higher education. The new model also considers the improvement of the working conditions of teachers. Our purpose is for youth to stay off the streets and stay in school. This year we began actions in higher education to eliminate fees; education must be free. Little by little we will advance so that free education is established at all levels. Many thanks to the people for their support during the report for the first 100 days of government that we presented yesterday at the Zócalo. There is enthusiasm and joy for what is happening in Mexico; we continue on the same path that began in December 2018: there will be no divorce between the people and the government. The Fourth Transformation movement is stronger than ever. We must always give results to the people. Beyond the evaluation of the authorities of Nuevo León, the lack of coordination remains in the state, which reduces the possibility of giving results. State security must come first. We call on the authorities to coordinate and act outside of political matters, which are part of democracy. The Executive Branch does not endorse proposals for the new head of the prosecutor's office in Guanajuato; such appointment corresponds to the state Congress. The best profile that meets the people must be found. However, the federal government coordinates with local authorities, since the state continues to be in first place in homicides in the country. This also has to do with the state development model that has not yielded results; we must attend to the youth. That is why there will be four new high schools in León; today there is only one. Discrimination, racism, classism and machismo are reminiscences of colonialism and neoliberalism. This must be left behind. The first thing is respect. Women, just like Mexico and its people, must be respected. This is part of the revolution of consciences. Yesterday we met with the governors attached to IMSS-Bienestar to review progress and resolve pending issues. Tomorrow, Tuesday, we will present the plan to strengthen the ISSSTE for 2025. We will also present the report of the National Coordination of Civil Protection on support for fighting fires in Los Angeles. On January 16, we will be with mayors from around the country to talk about the Fund for Contributions to Social Infrastructure (FAIS) assigned to indigenous peoples, as well as paths to peace and the master plan for water. In the section “Mexican Humanism,” we address the multiculturalism of our country that is shown on the second floor of the National Museum of Anthropology; Indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples are more alive than ever.
