I wrapped the drainage cube in fleece so that it cannot damage the film. I form the lowest dam using a grass curb. I only use a bit of concrete so that it doesn't tip over. I set the upper edge about 15 cm above the upper edge of the soakaway cube. Then the rest of the stream is formed. I set the second dam using old paving stones. Just a bit of concrete is enough to stop it from tipping over. The height difference between the dams is about 20 cm. The third dam is already the highest. All dams should be nice and straight. It is important that the outer border is at least 5 cm higher than the dams, or even better 10 cm. The individual basins between the dams can be easily formed using a shovel. The lowest step is too narrow for me, so I make it a bit wider with paving stones. I cut off the overhanging protective fleece around the grid cube. Now I lay the 25 mm hose here, which fits exactly through the grid. I put it through the side wall and not later through the lid, so the hose is not in the way. Next, the belly stones need to be prepared and selected. This time I am using sandstone, also known as water bricks. I find these interesting in terms of color and they are easy to work with. The stones are too big for our stream, so I break them up with a sledgehammer. I try to get a few flat stones where the water can run over them nicely. I can then later build these into the small weirs. When I break them up, gravel is also created, which I can later use for small gaps between the larger stones in the riverbed. Overall, I make sure to get lots of different sizes, as this will look more natural later. This works particularly well with this kind of rubble; I wouldn't do this with round pebbles, for example. Before I start putting stones in the stream, I cut a base out of the fleece scraps to protect the foil. The fleece shouldn't protrude over the edges, as this could lead to water loss later. Then I start building the first weir. For this, the stones placed on top of each other have to create the right height. Here you have to try out and change a lot until it works. #stream #streamconstruction #construction
