It is only a few kilometres wide and yet it concentrates all the elements of an explosive cocktail between Europe and Africa. It is the Strait of Gibraltar between southern Spain and northern Maghreb. Not a week goes by without fragile boats on which dozens of immigrants are crammed together trying to cross it at the risk of their lives to reach the Spanish beaches. Not a week goes by without powerful speedboats full of hashish making the same journey towards small, discreet coves where traffickers await them who will smuggle the drugs at full speed towards France and northern Europe. The Enquête Exclusive teams have traced these networks to reveal the astonishing passivity of certain Moroccan authorities who turn a blind eye to the immense hashish fields that are spread out in broad daylight and the multiple rear bases of the traffickers who cross the strait daily. Corruption, incompetence, but also peasants who live off this economy, why do they tolerate this culture? On the other side of the strait, you will discover the impressive surveillance system developed by the Guardia Civil to intercept trafficking.
