The tactics of storming by Lin and Larry Pardey ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The tactics of storming by Lin and Larry Pardey Called the inspirational duo, Lin and Larry Pardey inspire sailors of all ages to stop dreaming and start doing. The knowledge they share is gleaned from more than four decades of sailing together, years in which they have circumnavigated the globe both east to west and west to east aboard their home-built tenders, Seraffin and Taleysin. On a recent east-west passage, they rounded four of the great southern capes, including Cape Horn. Before meeting Lyn, Larry, a keen sailboat racer since the age of 17, was chief mate of the 140-ton, 85-foot schooner Double Eagle, sailing to Hawaii and along the coast of Mexico. Larry, along with Leslie Dyball, won the two-man handicap race around Great Britain in extremely rough seas. Lyn and Larry have sailed more than two dozen yachts across oceans and raced their own and other people's boats. To date, Lyn has sailed nearly 185,000 miles, and Larry has sailed over 200,000 miles on the seas. In 1996, Larry received the International Ocean Award from the Royal Institute of Navigation from Princess Anne, the Queen's eldest daughter, for meritorious offshore sailing using traditional sailing techniques. That same year, Lyn received the Ocean Sailing Award for having made the greatest contribution to the improvement and popularisation of small boat ocean sailing and all aspects of seamanship and navigation. In 2000, they were inducted into the Sailing World Hall of Fame. In 2009, the Cruising Club of America awarded Lyn and Larry their prestigious Far Horizons Award. Lyn and Larry recently sailed between the Line Islands and then south to New Zealand to celebrate Larry's 70th birthday.
