Stomach cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in Germany. Around 14,500 people develop this disease every year, and around 8,500 people die from it. Despite the relatively high number of people affected, stomach cancer is often only diagnosed at an advanced stage, which makes the chances of a cure more difficult. It is therefore particularly important to recognize the typical symptoms and know possible risk factors in order to prevent the disease at an early stage. ⏩ First inform yourself, then supplement: Feel free to take a look at my guides https://bit.ly/RatgeberHowTo ✅ ❎ 100% independent ❎ 100% study-based ❎ 100% medically correct 00:00 Stomach cancer: recognize warning signs & prevent 01:34 What is stomach cancer? 03:03 Symptoms and early detection 05:35 Causes and risk factors 09:11 Diagnosing stomach cancer 10:32 Treatment options and prognosis 13:21 Prevention and risk minimization #stomachcancer #cancer #tumor #medicine #health What is stomach cancer? Stomach cancer, also called gastric carcinoma, is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells in the stomach lining, which leads to the formation of a tumor. Most of the time, these tumors are located at the stomach outlet or on the "small curve" of the stomach. Over 90% of cases are adenocarcinomas, which originate from the gland cells in the stomach lining. Without treatment, these tumors can damage the surrounding tissue and form metastases that spread via the blood or lymphatic system to other organs such as the liver, lungs or peritoneum. However, if detected early, the chances of recovery are much better. Diagnosis of stomach cancer If you are suspected of having stomach cancer, your family doctor will usually refer you to a specialist. The doctor will first perform a thorough physical examination and ask about your medical history. Further diagnostics include imaging procedures such as X-rays, ultrasound or an MRI of the abdominal cavity. The most important examination, however, is gastroscopy, in which a small camera is inserted into the stomach to look at the stomach lining and, if necessary, take tissue samples. A blood test for tumor markers can also be carried out, but is of secondary importance. Treatment options and prognosis Stomach cancer is usually treated surgically if the tumor is detected early. Either part of the stomach or the entire stomach is removed. If the tumor is already larger, it is usually removed using laparoscopy, which is gentler and puts less strain on the patient. In some cases, chemotherapy or radiation treatment is also carried out to shrink the tumor or destroy any remaining cancer cells. Cited studies: Study 1 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37245...
