Stem cells are the medical revolution of the present. Already used for a long time to treat some diseases as in the case of bone marrow transplants, stem cells are now widely studied for future applications in the medical field. Like any new discovery, this revolution can be scary from an ethical point of view, but, understanding what it is and overcoming the initial fear, we will understand the hope that these new studies and gene therapy can give to patients who today have no prospects. After undertaking a PhD in Embryology in Italy, Graziano carried out a post-doctorate at the University of Cambridge - UK - during which he focused on the study of embryonic stem cells. He subsequently received numerous international awards and funding, thanks to which in 2014 he set up his own research laboratory at the Department of Molecular Medicine in Padua. He is currently an associate professor teaching Embryology and Stem Cell Biology at the University of Padua and his research activity is aimed at the study of stem cells, combining experimental and computational approaches, and their use as a model of neurodegenerative diseases.
