Lucas Stolerman holds a PhD in mathematics and is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Oklahoma State University. His research interests lie at the interface between mathematics, biology, and data-driven methods, with a focus on epidemic forecasting and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases. In 2021, he held the position of Associate Researcher in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School. From 2018 to 2020, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Laboratory of Computational Mechano-Cell Biology in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. In 2017, he joined the Scientific Computing Program (PROCC) of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) as a postdoctoral researcher, under the supervision of Cláudia Codeço. He obtained his PhD from the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) under the supervision of Roberto Imbuzeiro de Oliveira (IMPA) and J. Nathan Kutz (University of Washington). His thesis focused on dimensionality reduction techniques and machine learning algorithms for problems in Epidemiology and Epilepsy. Since 2019, his teaching activities have also extended to social media outreach programs, with the Instagram and YouTube pages @matematica.universitaria helping students with free classes in Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Mathematical Epidemiology. He is the creator of the courses Clube do Cálculo and Profissão Cientista, with more than 600 students from all over Brazil.
