In recent decades, mainstream intellectuals have attempted to banish Marxism and historical materialism from university classrooms, replacing them with neo-idealist, postmodern and neoliberal theories that defend the status quo and the established order. Debating against these ideas, claiming the validity of the famous definition of the Communist Manifesto that “the history of humanity to this day is the history of class struggle,” was one of the objectives of the Karl Marx Free Chair, promoted by the Armas de la Crítica group at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) during the months of November and December 2016.
