The most common of the Indirect Starts of three-phase electric motors is the Star Delta Starter. As the name suggests, this system will start the three-phase electric motor working with the concept of motor closing, that is, it starts its operation with a star closure and after a few seconds leads the motor to the delta closure. It is worth remembering that the purpose of this and any of the indirect starts is to reduce the electric current at the moment of starting (starting) of the three-phase electric motor. Note that in this case the motor to be used will need to have at least six connection terminals in its connection box because the closing of the coils will be carried out with the help of the contactors that make up the star delta starting system. Like any indirect starting, the Star Delta Starter reduces the electric current of the three-phase electric motor by using the physical structure of the motor's windings (coils), that is, it starts in two stages. For this, the motor must have at least six terminals in its terminal box. This means that this motor will be able to close to receive up to two voltage levels (normally 220V and 380V). Therefore, the motor we use will depend on the possibility of receiving at least two types of motor closing, star or delta closing. There is no magic, to achieve the main objective (reducing the electric current) there are only two possibilities: reducing the electric voltage or reducing the electrical resistance of the physical structure of the motor's windings (the latter is impossible for squirrel cage motors).
