On Monday, November 11th, the traditional St. Martin's Day parade took place in Bocholt, which is considered to be the oldest St. Martin's Day parade in Westphalia. Around 3,000 children and their accompanying adults gathered to experience the parade through the city center, which was organized by the Bocholt local history association. The starting shot was fired at 5:15 p.m. at Berliner Platz, from where the participants took a set route through the city. They passed well-known places such as the Mariengymnasium, St. George's Church, the Residenz retirement home and the Liebfrauen Church before the parade finally ended on the market square in front of the historic town hall. There, the St. Martin's bags were distributed, which, as every year, were filled with fruit, pastries and sweets and decorated with a motif by the Bocholt artist Hermann Schlatt. The children received the bags by class and were then taken to the agreed pick-up points. Michael Erkner once again portrayed St. Martin this year and rode ahead of the procession on his white horse. Despite light rain, the St. Martin's Day parade took place as planned. The local association would only have announced a cancellation in the event of extremely bad weather. In the event that children could not find their parents after the parade, contact persons were available in the historic town hall. Parents were advised to give their children a piece of paper with a telephone number on it to make it easier to contact them.
