When he reached the city gate, he saw a widow there gathering firewood. Calling her, he said: "Please bring me a little water in a vessel to drink." As she went to bring it, he shouted after her, saying: "Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand!" - "As your Lord lives," she answered, "I have nothing baked." , just a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a jug. Right now I'm picking up sticks to fix this for myself and my son when I get home. We will eat and then we will die." "Do not be afraid," said Elijah to her, "go and do as you have said. But first make a flatbread and bring it to me, and then fix something for yourself and your son. For the Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken thus: 'The pot of flour will not fail, nor the jar of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sends rain on the earth.'" She went and did as Elijah had said.
