In a community located in the middle of a valley, they still preserve almost every bit of the Shan way of life. Although a good asphalt road has already cut through the village entrance, the winding and mountainous roads on all sides make those who come here have to have enough determination to come and live a simple life with the people here. The Shan community in Ban Muang Pon, Mae Hong Son Province, in late March-early April of every year, a big merit-making event called Poi Sang Long is held. This is the most well-known Poi event among the 12 Shan Poi events. The villagers in the community live together like relatives, visiting and helping each other all the time. Therefore, the Poi events of this community are unique. For example, the ceremony of asking for forgiveness by tying a string around the wrist, and the procession of Sang Long to each house in the community to show gratitude and respect. They have different responsibilities, but each of them shows the interconnected relationships of the people in the community. Grandpa is a pattern maker, which is one of the Shan wisdoms. He is responsible for creating patterns on Sang Long clothing. Shan women carve patterns on shirts to prepare to wear to the Sang Long event the next day.
