The returning performer of the Babel Sound Festival is the Spencer Hill Magic Band (Hungary), who were seen again in Boglár on July 17, 2017. More: In the first half of the 1980s, the Kiszely brothers (Krisztián, Gergely and Dávid) – from then on, at the age of ten – first encountered the films of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill in a Transdanubian cinema. These childhood experiences transformed into serious nostalgic feelings in them, when in the second half of the nineties they were able to see the films of the acting duo again on TV, or later on the DVDs available everywhere. The atmosphere – which recalls a cloudless childhood, along with the films and their music – brought the moment when the idea of creating a band was conceived. The founding brother trio comes from a family of musicians and artists. In the company of a musician/teacher father and a highly musically trained actor grandfather, they soon got a taste of performing arts, especially music. They spent their time between instruments and vinyl records from the time they were in diapers, and as a result, they quickly became acquainted with the world of music. The music world of the seventies had the strongest influence on them, and it was during this era that the most famous Spencer–Hill films and their music were made. From brotherly love to a big band After their university years and starting a family, in the early 2000s, musical instruments came out at a family gathering. That was when the song “Brotherly Love” from And We’re Getting Angry Again was first played on two guitars and a bass guitar. That evening, the earlier idea of founding a band that would play exclusively the music of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill films crystallized. At that time, all three brothers had already played in different bands, especially Gergely (bass guitar), who had been a member of several Székesfehérvár formations (jazz-rock, big band) since 1993. In addition, two of the three brothers were studying at the Lauschmann Gyula Jazz School in Székesfehérvár, so it was not a difficult task to establish the newly started band, which did not yet have a name at that time. By 2005, the seven-eight-member team was formed, almost all of whose members still play in the band today. The Kiszely brothers played lead guitar, rhythm guitar and bass guitar, while Péter Csorba joined on drums and Péter Jelasity on saxophone (they had previously played together in other bands). Among the musicians they met at the Jazz School, singer Tamás Mészáros and the then still young but talented keyboard player János Horváth complete the band. In this form, the Spencer Hill Magic Band gave its first concert on July 16, 2006, at the Lompos Farkas nightclub in Budapest. Later, Orsolya Burján (vocals) and Marcell Hoff (percussion/drums) became full members of the band. Three years later, Orsolya left, and then there was a change in the drummer position, with Marcell taking over the drums permanently, and this is how the formation that still operates today was formed. Good humor and nostalgia – the key to success When the band was formed, it burst into a musical space that was untouched in the whole world, because until then there had been no live band that had covered and performed the music of Bud Spencer and Terence Hill's films. The repertoire includes songs from films made from the late sixties to the mid-eighties, regardless of the musical style. In addition to the Kiszely brothers, all members are highly qualified and experienced musicians who are proficient in jazz, jazz-rock, funky, ethno, rock and blues styles. This guarantees that the songs will sound professional at the concerts, while the main motivations for playing music are good humor and nostalgia, making every concert a real experience for the fans. The band has been giving many concerts in Hungary since the summer of 2006, the Hungarian Bud Spencer – Terence Hill Fan Festival, which is held every summer, stands out. In 2009, the German Fan Club invited the band to play in Leipzig, Germany for the first time. This was so successful that since then the Spencer Hill Magic Band has also played at the large-scale German fan meeting. The musical repertoire consists of more than fifty songs, the songs come from the pen of world-famous Italian composers such as Ennio Morricone, Guido and Maurizio De Angelis (i.e. Oliver Onions), Franco Micalizzi, and the La Bionda brothers (DD Sound).
