Klim Zhukov, Zhan Prosyanov and Kristina Egorova analyze director Stanley Kubrick's peplum "Spartacus" (1960), filmed based on the novel by Howard Fast. The legendary story of the slave rebellion led by the fearless and mighty gladiator Spartacus. He was a slave from Thrace. His strength and stature attracted the attention of the owner of the gladiator school Lentulus, and soon Spartacus went to Capua for a new master. He wins battles. But he wants only one thing - freedom. And one day, Spartacus escapes from his dungeon together with his comrades in misfortune. The gladiators set up a military camp and accept runaway slaves into their army. Soon the Senate learns about their raids on the homes of wealthy Romans. The army of Spartacus is declared war by the soldiers of Julius Caesar. The troops of Crassus and Spartacus meet and prepare for battle. At first, it would seem that the advantage is on the side of the rebels. However, Crassus lures the enemy into a trap, at the decisive moment of the battle he brings out new, fresh forces from hiding and defeats the army of slaves. Thousands of people are disarmed. Among them are Spartacus and his companion, the gladiator Crixus. Crassus promises life to anyone who gives up Spartacus. However, everyone is silent. Crassus demands that the leader of the rebels be handed over. Suddenly, a cry of "I am Spartacus!" is heard, then another, then another... hundreds, thousands of people shout "I am Spartacus!", but no one pointed out the real Spartacus.
