About :

The IV Corps (IV Tactical Zone) of the Republic of Vietnam, also known by its predecessor as the Fifth Military Region, was established on October 26, 1956. Initially, it included many provinces in the southwestern region. However, controlling this large area was difficult, leading to the decision of President Ngo Dinh Diem on January 1, 1963 to establish the IV Corps and the IV Tactical Zone with the core of the 7th, 9th and 21st Infantry Divisions. The headquarters of the Corps was located in Can Tho with Major General Huynh Van Cao as its first Commander.
