The main hall of Kamiya Shrine in Sakaide City, Kagawa Prefecture, was built in the early Kamakura period, about 800 years ago. It is the oldest surviving structure in Japan that is built in the architectural style of that time, and was designated a national treasure in 1955. A former female athlete is currently training to become the chief priest of this historic shrine.
