Part 2 of the miniseries dedicated to the rescue systems of spaceships The rescue turret of manned spacecraft is mostly associated with the Soviet and later Russian Soyuz. However, for its first practical use, we have to head to the United States of America. So today we will talk about the rescue tower that protected the astronauts during launches as part of the first American manned space program, Mercury. The rescue turret of the Mercury spacecraft had a total height of 4.65 meters and a maximum diameter of 81 cm.
