The YUMZ-6, like the MTZ, was a fairly popular Soviet tractor. Here we will talk about its features, advantages and disadvantages. Despite the fact that the MTZ is a more famous Soviet tractor, the YUMZ was also widely used, especially as an excavator. Perhaps, as an author, I was just lucky, but these tractors were used at construction sites in the regional center and my village. The YUMZ-6 tractor was a real long-liver and was produced from 1966 to 2001, having undergone several serious upgrades during this time. Due to its high strength and reliability, these tractors can even now be found on the used equipment market. Prices for the model in my region start from 500 thousand rubles, but everything depends on its condition and year of manufacture. It is a mistake to think that the YUMZ and Belarusian MTZ have a common origin - in fact, the Dnepropetrovsk tractors were developed with the help of Minsk engineers. Production began in 1944, immediately after the liberation of Dnepropetrovsk from German troops. At that time, the plant was not yet called YUMZ, it was called DAZ. Initially, the plant planned to produce GAZ-51 trucks, serial production of which began in 1946, and prototypes were created before the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. For unknown reasons, instead of producing GAZ-51, it was decided to start assembling ZIS-150 at the Dnepropetrovsk Automobile Plant, probably due to the country's need for heavier trucks.
