Norway - the dream country of many. But where should you travel? Most people think of the North Cape and Lofoten. We deliberately did not want to visit these tourist hotspots this time, but instead went to where many Norwegians go on holiday - and that is the south of the country. In midsummer it is really busy there, but in May it is still quiet and relaxed. And so in the first part of our trip we explored the coastal region west of Kristiansand. You can of course quickly drive from Kristiansand to Stavanger on the E39 (230 km), but then you miss the narrow roads that meander along lakes and fjords, the lighthouses that stand on rocks right by the sea and the beautiful beaches. And you miss the southernmost point of the mainland: Lindesnes fyr. From here it is over 2500 km to the North Cape... The holiday homes, which are often built on tiny archipelago islands and can only be reached by boat, are always interesting. There are also many small towns, whose mostly white-painted wooden houses shine in the sun and invite you to stroll. We weren't always lucky with the weather, but that's something you have to expect in Norway. Weeks of sunshine are rare here. Our further journey took us via Stavanger to the still snow-covered plateaus, past fjords, lakes and waterfalls. But more about that in the second part of our trip.
